Class Description

If you already paint in watercolor, acrylics, gouache and or pastels and you want to try oils, this is the class for you. I’ll cover the basics, tools and how to safely paint in oils. And you will be painting from the first class. Even if you have already dabbled in oils you will find this class useful as you go forward.

About Georgia Nagle

I graduated with a BFA in art from UT-Knoxville and moved to Atlanta right after. I began showing my work through galleries ever since. I began painting in oils exclusively in 2001 when I took up plein air painting. I’ve been teaching oil painting on the side for more than 5 years.

Supply list

  • 4-6 canvas boards (8 x 10 or 9 x 12). At least one of these should not be expensive. We’ll be doing exercises.
  • Gamsol (solvent) and solvent jar
  • Brushes - Flats 2, 4, and 6. ( I recommend Aspens by Princeton)
  • Paints: Artist quality only. Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow Light, Viridian, Burnt Seinna and a large tube of Titanium White. (I like Gamblin)
  • Masterson Palette and palette paper
  • Paper towels and a plastic grocery bag
  • Photos to work from and a sketch book for thumbnails.
  • Also, you may want to pick up an unused pizza box to transport your paintings. Recommended only if you don’t want oil paint all over your car.
